12 automatic ways to increase the content on your WordPress powered Web site

by Patrick Algrim

Increase ContentThere are a number of ways to increase the amount of content that you have on your WordPress blog. It is quite simple to do this with plugins or just with certain social network extended javascript options. With all of the different ways to share media available on the internet, there is no doubt that you will want to syndicate your Web site with these networks. Not only can you do it for your personal blog but you can do it for your network, company, or idea. By syndicating your various social networks and media networks with your current Web site you will ultimately drag attention to your Web site. This is a great way to market your blog, company Web site, or community project. For example, just by adding good photographs to flickr with a caption linking the viewer to your Web site will encourage all of those viewers to visit the related Web site.

Here is a good list of tools that will help you syndicate your social networks with WordPress, as well as a great way to create more content. You must realize that other networks are not just social platforms anymore, they are means of publishing platforms, and a better way to find users of similar interest to what your content or media may be.

FlickrRSS - A great tool that will display your recent flickr photographs. Yes this might be old news to everyone, but think about how you can use this to better create content for your blog.

Twitter Badge - There are some great WordPress plugins available for displaying your last twitter. But if you are a beginner you might just want to use the default badge. Start following others, sending messages, and ultimately you can self promote your latest post on your blog (from twitter.com).

Sideblog 3.0 Plugin - A sideblog can be made either by applying the plugin or by creating an “aside” WordPress category hack technique. If you are not an advanced user, I would suggest just using the sideblog plugin. But with some simple searching, I am sure you can do this without the plugin. This plugin will create a smaller news portion of your Web site which you can update with simple links, “where you are” portions, or any other form of small text you might find useful to visitors.

Pownce Plugin - Are you a Pownce user? While this is very similar to twitter, there is a very niche user base here. This plugin is very similar to the twitter badge, except it uses Pownce as a publishing platform.

Latest Tumblr - If you have a Tumblr account and you use it often, you might want to incorporate the smaller text you have or the images you share on Tumblr with your main blog or Web site. Marketing is a little more difficult with Tumblr, but the Tumblr platform is just so fun to use that there is no reason to pass this up.

MyStatus Plugin - A great little tool that is useful if you are not a Pownce or Twitter user. Allow your visitors to know what you are doing. Which books you have read, what movies you are watching, anything you could possibly imagine! Plus, this plugin works with the WordPress backend, so you can update your status anywhere!

Amazon Wishlist Plugin - This is a great plugin, because not only will it promote your users to buy you a nice little gift. But it is a great tool to use if you publish books or any other form of multimedia.

Delicious Links Plugin - The delicious links plugin is a great tool for sharing your latest bookmarks. Not only will it promote others to view your inspiring links, but it promotes your visitors to add you as a del.icio.us friend.

Digg Dugg Plugin - This tool is great to use if you are a frequent digg user. I would suggest only using this on a personal blog. You can display recent diggs, upcoming news, and much more. This plugin is fairly easy to customize.

Last.fm Cloud - This plugin creates a nice little tag cloud for your last.fm feed, but if you want something a little more simple, head over to last.fm and you can easily display your last played artists and songs from iTunes.

Facebook Photograph Plugin - Very similar to the flickr plugin, but if you are more of a facebook user you might find this to be more useful for your personal blog.

Facebook Comments Plugin - If you are a facebook user you might like to share your comments with your friends on your personal blog. This is a great way to syndicate your activity. But be careful, you might not want to share some of your comments to everyone.

  1. There is also a way of using a js script for delicio, a php call for flickr, and magpie for twitter to decrease the amount of plugins loaded with WordPress = less junk and loading time.
I’m using some of the scripts without any flaws til now, and it’s just one line of code to insert, so it doesn’t increase the db. =)

  2. I have been a frequent visitor of this blog for some time now, so I thought it would be a good idea to leave you with my thanks.

  3. Hi all great information here and good thread to comment on.

Can I ask though - how did you get this picked up and into google news?

Very impressive that this blog is syndicated through Google and is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Obviously this is a popular blog with great data so well done on your seo success..
