A Brief Message, more than just a good idea, a statement of todays lifestyle

by Patrick Algrim

A Brief Message
A Brief Message
is a great Web site put on by one of the people I find most inspiring, Khoi Vinh. While Khoi has a partner in crime who works as an information architect at Happy Cog (http://www.bobulate.com - Liz Danzico), you can really see Khoi’s style come through on the Web site. Simple, grid layout, with great type faces and white space usage. This acts as a perfect fit for the 200 word information architecture below your navigation. But is A Brief Message more than just a great idea? Yes! A Brief Message showcases words on design and art in less than 200 words. Imagine how many articles you view on the Web that have more than 200 words, you could easily say that roughly 40% of them will have more than that (A List Apart, TechCrunch, Gizmodo, are all good examples of possibly having more than 200 words).

But is the idea more than just a choice, is it a staple of todays life style? Yes! Everyday people are getting more and more busy, whatever life you live, it is becoming busier. Time is moving faster, and you have more jobs to handle. With every toy, comes a responsibility. If you have a nice car, you have to have car insurance, if you have insurance, you have to have a job. It is a trickle effect that is inevitable. So what makes A Brief Message so good? The fact that you can take 200 words or less and learn something from it. The way people learn has changed, especially younger generations, we don’t need as many words to learn something new. We are able to contemplate images and concepts easier, and able to think logically based on that content. So what is the whole thesis behind this? People will visit A Brief Message purely because it is just that, less words, more learning. Is it more than just a good idea and a staple of current life styles? I think you could say, yes!

Was this 200 words or less? Maybe…
