How long before your blog starts to pay off?

by Patrick Algrim

I was thinking about this subject today, and came to a quick conclusion after doing a little research. The main question was, how long does it take before your blog starts to pay off? Not how long does it take before you start earning money, but how long before your Web site is featured on galleries, getting recognition, having returning visitors and frequent commenter’s. From the experience here on Hell Yeah Dude, we can say that at around 4 - 5 months, we started seeing a whole lot of frequent traffic, incoming uniques from random Web sites and frequent commenter’s that show their fan heritage. This time frame is also a good way to analyze how swollen your niche is. Obviously if your idea is original, you have a better chance of it becoming successful a lot quicker, with less amounts of promotion than others.

But how can you start promoting your Web site to be at the “successful” state that you are looking for. Well, starting by sending your fresh design into some of the well known design galleries. One of our favorites is Best Web Gallery, and another great one is Design by Grid. Obviously you should start commenting on other blogs, and event start following those bloggers on Twitter. You have a slew of social resources available on the internet, and the best thing to do is use them. Twitter has gotten me many “120 character” friends and many times links me to blogs where I continue to post comments and join in discussions. While you might not see posts on Hell Yeah Dude often, I am constantly making a voice all over the blogosphere, giving my opinion and acknowledgments to all voices.

How many months has it taken for your blog to get to the point where you see it as being “successful?”

On a side note, we apologize for the paid review being posted on the front page. We are trying to increase the amount of revenue Hell Yeah Dude earns. We didn’t like Google’s Adsense since it basically earned zero revenue and annoyed readers. So a paid review is the only thing keeping us afloat. We try and put the paid review into the archives so you never even know it is there. But somehow the time stamp got a little screwy and showed up. We apologize for the inconvenience. This week has been extremely busy for me.

Hell Yeah Dude is pleased to announce the new sister Web site called A True Vision. Hell Yeah Dude will no longer post about large corporate PR and Marketing topics, all of those topics will be on A True Vision. The idea of A True Vision is to showcase a younger generations creativity in an older generations corporate environment.

Whats coming up next week? The Webliography revolution, and how you can get involved.
