Is word of mouth starting to settle down?
For a couple of weeks here, word of mouth has been on the up-stream. Meaning, large and small companies trying to jump on board. At work I have heard of even small coffee shops looking into word of mouth tactics and memberships into the marketing world. But word of mouth is definitely slowing down. Why? Well there really isn’t anything new. We have said this before, but I feel the social media world is most definitely slowing down. I have been getting a whole lot of LinkedIn friend requests, but I am not a very big fan of LinkedIn. It was brought up to me from a friend that LinkedIn is the first social network that big corporations got a hold of, unlike MySpace where it got loaded with promoters and spamming.
So sure I have a LinkedIn profile, I mean, I have a profile on many of the social networks available. I love to test out new products all the time, but many of them don’t impress me. Especially LinkedIn. But on a side note, lets get away from the social network talk. We asked, is word of mouth starting to settle down? I think it is for a lot of types of art and media. But one sort of media it isn’t slowing down for is music.
Music blogs are exploding, and they are becoming larger and larger by the minute. Their blog rolls are just ridiculous, letting you discover more and more music. I can’t even begin to show you the amount of blogs that are available for discovering new music. Some of my favorites are missingtoof.com and streetlab.net.
Tons of free music is available through blogs, how much more word of mouth can you get!!? All of these blogs posting new music almost daily allows each viewer to discover new music, where they are ultimately linked to the artists myspace page, where obviously the linked user is promoted to buy that artists album. Amazing word of mouth is going on in this process, and the whole ordeal is still pleasing the viewer. Each visitor finds new music, becomes a fan, and is ultimately happy with their newly discovered artist. Pleasing your customer is the best way into word of mouth. A happy customer is also a promoter, telling their friend of the newly discovered artist or music blog.
So is word of mouth on the downfall? Well, maybe product and social media wise. But the explosion of blogging has just met the underground music world (especially this past year or so). So go ahead, click those blogs and listen to new music!

Good call on the music blogs. I’ve been getting really into them lately and noticing how they’re blowing up at the moment. Missingtoof is one of my favs too. Discobelle & Iheartcomix are a couple other great music blogs.
