Free WordPress Theme: Angebot - Die Neue Typographie
Today I am pleased to announce a new free theme from Hell Yeah Dude. This theme is one I have been contemplating for some time. The theme is very simple, very minimalistic, but holds a certain value as it replicates the brochure from the book, “Die Neue Typographie: The New Typography.” According to the book, “Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type” by Kimberly Elam, the book was published in 1928, and the historical brochure showed some of the best typographical grid’s ever made. According to Kimberly Elam’s book, the brochure embellishes sans serif set in a two-column overlapping grid. The design embodies the principles set forth by Tschichold and was an experiment in subtle contrast.
Well now is your chance to own a piece of history, and show it off on your blog. This single page theme makes for perfect journal type entries. With this theme you’ll be able to browse through the home page as if it were a real print publication. Turning page by page to see new content, even if you are on a single page. The yellow background may be too bright for some viewers, so we give the visitor the option to change contrasts, using jQuery the user is able to select either a yellow or white background to their liking. The theme is simple and easy to expand on.

Some of the great features
- Search Engine Optimization through keyword, by using the tags option for each post. This feature originally developed by Nathan Rice, implemented into this theme for optimized SEO.
- User is able to browse back and forth through individual posts when on the home page, and when on the single post page.
- Gravatar support for commenting, using a custom defined grid specifically for the Gravatars.
- jQuery “theme switcher” to allow your visitors to select contracts (currently White and Yellow).
- Custom description of blog posts using WordPress’ custom excerpt function.
- W3C Validated CSS, as well as short CSS that was less than 100 lines.
- Tested on IE5.5 - 8, Safari, Firefox (Windows and Mac)
- A piece of history that you won’t want to miss out on.
But wait, that’s not all!
The theme is FREE, I repeat, the theme is FREE! But, don’t miss out an amazing offer. When you purchase the theme for only $5.00, you will not only receive a theme without any creator tags (theme author tags on the home page and single pages), but you will get customer support from us (any questions, you ask, we’ll answer), and you will be entered into a drawing to receive a brand new Mac Book Pro! That’s right, when you purchase the $5.00 theme, you will be entered into the drawing that will take one lucky buyer and turn his or her $5.00 into $2000.00! But here is the catch, first you must purchase theme, this will put you into the drawing, but second, we have to get 1000 people to purchase the $5.00 theme! But don’t worry, it shouldn’t be that hard. I get way more than 1000 visitors a day to this blog, as well as to this blog post, so the opportunity is there. But it is up to you to make this happen! So buy the theme, start blogging about it, tell your friends, and get them to enter into the drawing as well! There is no time deadline on this thing, we will wait until we have 1000 people and then make the random drawing. The drawing will be done on video, selected out of a hat, and the winner will be announced on this Web site. Every day, we will update the count on how many people purchased the theme, so you can keep track of when the drawing will occur.
But don’t worry, it’s still free
You don’t get all the bells and whistles, or even the chance to win the Mac Book Pro! But you do get a chance to take part in a piece of history, and use a theme that represents art, culture, and theory behind design. This theme may be subject to updates or changes. Currently, this version is 0.1b. This theme is very small and lightweight, you shouldn’t have any trouble installing it and using it. You should read the included “Read Me” file to find out how to work the theme. You are always welcome to donate later on by using the purchase link above. When donating, you will also be entered into the contest to win the Mac Book Pro!
Thanks again for all of your love and support, I sincerely appreciate it. Don’t be afraid to use the tell a friend link and the share link just below this text.

Most cool—thank you. *Purchased*.
Just a note re the grid: I like the size of the gutters you’ve got between the main body column and secondary sidebar, but the header seems to have a line that runs into the gutter; the ‘This is a demo post…’ line.
Have you tried using wp-hyphenate? Should even the measures out a wee bit.
Kudos again. Have a smashing day mate. (:

hi there hellyeahdude!
what a beautiful theme and what a nice idea to adapt tschichold’s principles! i also like the absence of any unnecessary wordpress functionality and ditching the justification of the bodytext of the original layout. one thing: the body text overlaps images with .alignright!
could you tell me how many people are paying for the theme compared to the downloads? i am also working on a theme which i hope will stand out a little bit from the crowd, but i dont want to sell it as a premium theme. so this concept seems interesting
kudos! korbinian

nice theme. though i must say i’m not sure wether the mix of univers and helvetica is ethically alright. i know it’s a browser problem but since you mentioned tschichold, i’ll have to be a little tschichold here. god we designers are all haters^^

Is there and possibility of adding imagery/customizable headers or changing the colors completely of the yellow and black page? i’m shopping for a new theme for my personal site.

Super cool theme! Downloaded it - tested it - liked it
…but now for some reason when I download it again, and put it on a freshly installed blog - it doesn’t work anymore - I just get plain (really ugly) plain text. It’s like it’s not loading the css or something?! Anybody else having problems with this? has anything changed in the zip file?
Nov 28th 2008
@Timothy - Yes there is, all you have to do is change the CSS a bit. All there really is to change is the background of the body and the background of the button for the comment, that’s it! Two very minor changes.
@Kasper - No I have not heard of this before, it’s definitely because the CSS is not loading, did you try and check the fresh WordPress install? Are other themes working? If so, can you view source on your live site that isn’t working and see where the stylesheet is being sourced from? (Maybe you can find the error that way)

dear dean, 1st upload your theme with your ftp account into your installation to
wp-content/themes/(your desired folder)
then login to your admin, wordpress admin account and go to themes and activate it.
sometimes it happens that the stylesheet is missing, but then just re-upload this theme ( the complete ) folder again. if you did it right, the theme should be clickable and so activated.
good luck, im sure you dont need luck anymore

Is it possible to use this on a free wordpress blog (partly because I cannot get anything to work on my hosted site at the moment) (graphic designer and not especially web savvy) - if so how do I do this. Any answers much appreciated.
Cheers
